Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the FISA Foundation for their visionary leadership to end domestic and sexual violence and, along with the Heinz Endowments and the United Way, have engaged corporate, government, sports and nonprofit partners to take the Father's Day Pledge and to take action in meaningful and measurable ways; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, June 17, 2016, to be "FATHER'S DAY PLEDGE DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, The Father’s Day Pledge to End Gender Violence encourages people, particularly men, to sign a pledge that indicates their commitment to the prevention of domestic and sexual violence and abuse; and,

 

WHEREAS, The Pledge, which was launched two years ago by the Southwest PA Says No More Initiative, calls for men to not use violence in their own relationships and also to intervene when they see another man harming women or girls; and,

 

WHEREAS, The Father’s Day Pledge to End Gender Violence is a four point pledge that helps men who are supportive of this issue have a better sense of what might their role be in promoting prevention.  Begun by the FISA Foundation, the Heinz Endowments and the United Way, the initiative is part of the National SAY NO MORE campaign focused on the prevention of domestic and sexual violence; and,

 

WHEREAS, The Father’s Day Pledge Signing will take place on Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Allegheny County Courthouse Courtyard at 12 Noon, with partners like The Pittsburgh Pirates, the City of Pittsburgh, Allegheny County and CEOs and officials from area corporations, businesses and non-profits in attendance with remarks by prominent community leaders who will declare their reasons for signing the Pledge; and,
