WHEREAS, the recent repaving and streetscape improvements of Brookline Boulevard have been some 20-years in the making, and the citizens, businesses owners, and community groups of the Brookline neighborhood are finally celebrating that long-awaited completion; and
WHEREAS, a vibrant business district anchors a neighborhood, connects citizens to citizens, citizens to their neighborhood, and the neighborhood to the city, which makes the city and region that much stronger; and
WHEREAS, the all-volunteer committee of Brookline Unveiled has tapped into the energy and excitement that comes with the revitalization of the community's most visible space, Brookline Boulevard; and
WHEREAS, the vision of the Brookline Unveiled committee was guided by recent community-visioning projects, led by groups such as the South Pittsburgh Development Corporation and the Brookline Chamber of Commerce, members of which spent hundreds of hours setting the table for such a celebration; and
WHEREAS, Brookline Unveiled is both innovative and welcoming to long-time Brookline residents, newcomers to the community, and all citizens of our region; and
WHEREAS, the Brookline Unveiled committee was driven by a love of the neighborhood and its residents, who, whether filling out grant applications, organizing vendors, booking entertainment, recruiting volunteers, designing resources, or negotiating City of Pittsburgh regulations, did so with grace and aplomb; and
WHEREAS, we are excited to celebrate, promote the neighborhood, and highlight Brookline Unveiled as a catalytic event for further development and investment in our beloved Brookline.

THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, September 5th through Sunday, September 7th, 2014, to be "Brookline Unveiled Weekend" in the City of Pittsburgh.
