WHEREAS, on Wednesday, October 5 the second annual VIA Music & New Media Festival will kick off a week of events bringing music, art, experimental media, seminars, and workshops to neighborhoods all over the City; and
WHEREAS, VIA has formed partnerships with over a dozen community organizations to offer programming in both traditional and pop-up venues in Oakland, the South Side, Bloomfield, Garfield, Lawrenceville and East Liberty; and
WHEREAS, on Friday, October 7th and Saturday, October 8th VIA will transform an entire block of Broad Street in East Liberty with an outdoor performance space and indoor programming in the newly renovated buildings along the block; and
WHEREAS, performances at the festival will feature artists with international renown, with 40% of these artists having lived or currently living in the City of Pittsburgh; and
WHEREAS, VIA will join up with the first-ever Pittsburgh Vinyl Convention and Small Press Festival on Saturday, October 8th merging three festivals into one; and
WHEREAS, Resident Advisor, one of the world's largest independent electronic music magazines, ranked the VIA festival fifth in its list of the Best Fall Music Festivals of 2011.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the 2011 VIA Music & New Media Festival for bringing groundbreaking arts and cultural events to our City; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the week of October 3rd through October 9th "VIA Music & New Media Festival Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
