Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council in the City of Pittsburgh Recognizes and Commends Pennsylvania 1st Female Lieutenant Governor, Ms. Catherine Baker Knoll for her dedication, commitment, and courage in being a Pioneer and a Trailblazer for all women to follow. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council in the City of Pittsburgh declares today, April 8, 2004, "Lieutenant Governor Catherine Baker Knoll Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on January 21, 2003, State History was made when Pennsylvania elected the 1st female Lieutenant Governor, Ms. Catherine Baker Knoll; and
WHEREAS, after decades in politics and 11 statewide primary and general election campaigns, Knoll put all her political abilities, education, integrity as well as charm, on the line for the betterment of this State; and
WHEREAS, Lt. Governor Catherine Baker Knoll, a 25 year member of the Pittsburgh Chapter  of Zonta International will be honored for her lifetime achievements with the Prestigious Amelia Earhart Leadership Award; and
WHEREAS, Lt. Governor Knoll has been a strong advocate for women's education.  She also continues to be involved with the YMCA, Boys and Girls Clubs, Mom's House, the NAACP, Elder Care, Inc. and the Pennsylvania Nature Conservancy, as well as her State duties which include presiding over State Senate, chair of both the Pennsylvania Board of Pardons and the Local Government Advisory Committee and chair of the Pennsylvania Emergency Management Council.
