WHEREAS The Greater Pittsburgh Healthy Marriage Coalition (GPHMC) envisions healthy marriage as the foundational and beneficial institution of a thriving community; its development is linked to the promotion and support of nurturing relationships; a cornerstone that further supports positive values that benefits all people.
WHEREAS the mission of the Greater Pittsburgh Healthy Marriage Coalition is to promote healthy marriages and to strengthen family relationships through education, organizational capacity-building, resource development, policy reform and advocacy.
WHEREAS the Greater Pittsburgh Healthy Marriage Coalition is committed to the belief that healthy marriage starts with a focus on a loving husband and wife that touches the lives of children and ultimately impacts society.
WHEREAS The Couples of Distinction Awards began in 2007 as an effort by the Greater Pittsburgh Healthy Marriage Coalition to increase community awareness about the positive benefits of healthy marriage for children, families and the community and to recognize and celebrate local married couples.
WHEREAS Recipients of the “Couples of Distinction” Award exemplify a “Gold Medal Marriage”, which is “ a marriage that exhibit longevity, resilience, loyalty, support, service and durability in the face of challenges and trials.”, as stated by the Utah Governor's Commission on Marriage.
WHEREAS The Greater Pittsburgh Healthy Marriage Coalition in partnership with TWOgether Pittsburgh intends to recognize the 2008 Couples of Distinction awardees at the Regional Marriage Enrichment Conference and “2008 Couples of Distinction” Awards Gala, scheduled for Thursday September 18th and Friday September 19th, 2008.
