Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the University of Pittsburgh's Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the College in High School program for motivating Pittsburgh high school students to reach their fullest potential; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 5th, 2016 to be "University of Pittsburgh College in High School Program 35th Anniversary Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, 35 years ago, Dr. Henry Cohen founded College in High School (CHS) at the University of Pittsburgh, an academically rigorous dual-enrollment program for high school students throughout the Pittsburgh region; and,

 

WHEREAS, the College in High School program trains and certifies high school teachers who work in tandem with the University of Pittsburgh’s world-class faculty to provide motivated high school students with the opportunity to earn transferrable college credits in a supportive high school environment; and,

 

WHEREAS, students are exposed to the rigors of a high-quality, challenging collegiate curriculum for a fraction of the cost; and,

 

WHEREAS, under the leadership of the University of Pittsburgh’s Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences, participation in the College in High School program has grown from 16 participating students at one area high school to 3,000 students in 130 schools throughout the region over its 35-year history; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the University of Pittsburgh’s Dietrich School of Arts and Sciences and the College in High School program for motivating Pittsburgh high school students to reach their fullest potential; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 5th, 2016 to be “University of Pittsburgh College in High School Program 35th Anniversary Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
