Title: NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Citizens Bank for the countless contributions provided to the City of Pittsburgh and its residents, especially its new endeavor, the Community Stars program. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that August 3, 2004, be hereby declared "Citizens Bank Day" throughout the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Citizens Bank of Pennsylvania is a $27.3 billion state-chartered bank with dual headquarters in Pittsburgh and Philadelphia. It has more than 390 branches, more than 630 ATMs and a convenient network of commercial banking offices throughout Pennsylvania; and
WHEREAS, on December 3, 2001, Citizens Bank officially opened in Allegheny County, retaining virtually all Mellon employees affected by the transaction, and within only a few months increased its work force by 12 percent; and
WHEREAS, marking its entrance into the region, Citizens Bank sponsored a day of free rides on all Port Authority buses, light rail vehicles and the Monongahela Incline, one of its many contributions to the City of Pittsburgh and its residents; and
WHEREAS, Citizens Bank continues its perfect record of giving back to its customers by developing programs and services that support and serve the communities within the Commonwealth. This summer, Citizens, in partnership with WPXI-TV, has launched their new Community Stars program; and
WHEREAS, the Community Stars program will benefit the non-profit community from a funding perspective. One of the goals is to create awareness and build community support for smaller organizations that are making a profound difference in our neighborhoods. Once selected as a Community Star, the community organization is awarded a $25,000 unrestricted grant as well as extensive promotional and volunteer support for the betterment of the organization and the constituents they serve; and
WHEREAS, Citizens' first Community Star in Allegheny County will focus on the issue of eldercare services. Topics in the future will include social concerns such as workforce development, homelessness and youth support.
