Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Joseph Kaminski for effortlessly fostering knowledge and appreciation of Polish culture, history and traditions to the American people, strengthening understanding and friendship between Americans and Poles and fostering a deeper understanding of Polish heritage among Americans of Polish descent for the enrichment of American Culture and commends him on his acceptance of the Polonian of the Year Award. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that today, May 8, 2004 be hereby declared "Joseph A. Kaminski Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Body
WHEREAS, Joseph A. Kaminski is an active member of The Kosciuszko Foundation, Polish National Alliance, Polish American Congress, West End Pulaski Society, Polish Cultural Council and Bal Poloniase Committee; and

WHEREAS, Joseph is President of PNA Council 165, Treasurer of the West End Pulaski Society and Secretary of the Polish American Congress. He was elected to two consecutive four year terms to serve as District VIII Commissioner for the Polish National Alliance. His active work within the PNA, especially with youth programs, has resulted in national recognition and an increase in PA membership; and

WHEREAS, Joseph received his Associate Degree in Business Administration from Robert Morris Junior College. He went on to work for Crum & Forester Insurance Group as a premium auditor and retired after twenty-nine years of service; and

WHEREAS, as a very involved parishioner of St. Stanislaus Kostka Church in Pittsburgh's Strip District, Joseph's activities range from singing in the choir at Polish language masses to assisting the church in fundraising activities; and

WHEREAS, Joseph has been married to Marlene Dayton Kaminski for forty-four wonderful years. They have three children and five grandchildren and all are active in Polish culture and tradition activities. Their granddaughter Emily Barger was a debutante in the 2003 Bal Polanaise; and

WHEREAS, this year on May 8, 2004, the Kosciuszko Foundation will honor Joseph A. Kaminski with the Polonian of the Year Award.
