WHEREAS, the PA Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) was formed in 1993 by a group of effective, dedicated, and active breast cancer survivors who had one common mission: to find a cure for breast cancer; and,
WHEREAS, since 1994, the PBCC has been presenting a traveling photo exhibit 67 Women, 67 Counties: Facing Breast Cancer in Pennsylvania which is hosted this year by Carlow University with an opening reception Friday, October 16 at 5:30 PM and will be open to the public through October 25; and,
WHEREAS, this heartwarming photo exhibit represents at least one woman from each of the state’s 67 counties who exemplifies life, courage, hope and dignity of women and families who have battled breast cancer; and,
WHEREAS, the exhibit encourages women to learn about and practice early detection through yearly mammograms, monthly breast self-exams, and annual clinical exams; and,
WHEREAS, the PBCC is a statewide source of action and information for Pennsylvania women with breast cancer and their families and a support to families who have lost loved ones battling the disease which they accomplish through statewide educational programming, legislative advocacy and breast cancer research grants; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the PA Breast Cancer Coalition for representing, supporting and serving women with breast cancer, survivors and their families; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of October to be “Breast Cancer Awareness Month” in the City of Pittsburgh.
