WHEREAS, Shayla Penn is a devoted mother of four, a Baldwin-Whitehall native and longtime Sheraden resident, and a Pittsburgh-based caterer, food educator, and home chef who shares her family's favorite recipes and culinary knowledge in teaching kitchens across Allegheny County; and
WHEREAS, she is the founder and operator of Burgh Eats and Treats, a widely respected Facebook group and trusted resource celebrating food and promoting locally owned restaurants across the Pittsburgh region and other cities across the country, with more than 27,000 members; and
WHEREAS, she serves as a guest instructor at Wholey's Seafood, leads community cooking demonstrations, supports youth cooking camps, and mentors others in healthy cooking, including sponsoring competitions benefiting the National Cancer Society and 412 Thrive; and
WHEREAS, through her culinary creativity, she collaborated with Acrospire Brewery and Barrel & Flow to create her own local beer "Blu Berry and Flo," which was offered at their annual Beer Festival; and
WHEREAS, Shayla has shared her expertise across numerous media outlets, including hosting segments on Star 100.7 with Bubba and Mel, appearing on The Pittsburgh Dish podcast, serving as a regular guest on the Ya Jagoff podcast and radio show, and appearing on Pittsburgh Today Live. She is regularly invited to create promotional content for businesses, organizations, and special events such as Pittsburgh's Wine & Spirit Festival, Baconsburgh, Good Taste Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh Magazine, and many local restaurants throughout the region; and
WHEREAS, she has been recognized through nominations by Pittsburgh City Paper for Best Soul Food in the City and by the Black Chef Association for Best Chef in 2025 and she has received the Women of Excellence award from The Pittsburgh Courier; and
