WHEREAS, Don Panella, who has served the City of Pittsburgh just shy of 5 decades, is retiring; and,
WHEREAS, Having taken care of Grandview Park in Pittsburgh’s Mt. Washington neighborhood for many decades, he has over the years shown the park community the same devotion he has shown his family; and,
WHEREAS, caring for his neighborhood the way he cares about his own home, Don has gone out of his way to make sure that Bigbee Street, not part of Grandview Park, is similarly kept immaculate; and,
WHEREAS, Don has gone above and beyond to make the park a fantastic place for everyone to enjoy-taking the time to put out doggie bowls and various toys for all of the animals; and,
WHEREAS, he has spent time getting to know visitors and local residents, seeing multiple generations of Pittsburgh families grow; and,
WHEREAS, while Don is not a Pittsburgh native, he has called this city home since his 20s; and,
WHEREAS, after coming to America from Italy and working other jobs, Don landed at Public Works and hasn’t looked back; and,
WHEREAS, beloved and respected by everyone, you are already dearly missed and we hope that you enjoy every minute of retirement and don’t forget to come by often; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend and celebrate Don Panella for his tremendous service to the City and our wonderful parks; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, July 25th, 2017 to “Don Panella Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
