Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Mary Ellen Barr for her 42 years of dedicated service to the City and the Department of Public Safety and congratulates her and wishes her well on her retirement; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, July 31, 2015, to be " MARY ELLEN BARR DAY " in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, in an era when people do not stay at jobs for long stretches of time, the achievements of Mary Ellen Barr speak to a strong work ethic and a personal commitment to her work; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen Barr was born and raised in Patton, PA and came to Pittsburgh by herself shortly after graduating from high school. She attended Powers Business School and started to work for the City in the Public Safety Department on June 13, 1973; and,   

 

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen is currently a Clerical Specialist 2, has worked at several locations throughout the city including the Tow Pound and will retire from her position at Zone 4 on July 31, 2015. She has written instructions for the next clerk so that he or she will be able to fit right into the position seamlessly; and,

 

WHEREAS, Mary Ellen is married to Russell Barr, who is retired. They live in Shadyside but will be moving to Curtisville, PA where Mary Ellen and Russell will enjoy their retirement together, hoping to start traveling in September. Mary Ellen also loves to swim, shop and travel.
