• Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh extends best wishes to Catherine Carney Best on the occasion of her 100th birthday. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that August 6, 2006 be hereby declared "Catherine Best Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Mrs. Catherine Best of Lawrenceville will commemorate the occasion of her 100^th birthday with a joyous celebration of her family and friends on August 6, 2006, at St. Mary's Lyceum; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Best, the daughter of T.J. and Catherine Carney, was born on August 5, 1906, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania; and

WHEREAS, Catherine Carney was married to Edward Best on June 30, 1925.  Their happy union lasted thirty-three years, and produced seven children Elizabeth (Betty) Lentz, Catherine (Sis) Kelly, Edward (Ed), Robert (Bob), William (Bill), Thomas (Tom) and Joan.  Catherine's beloved husband, Ed, passed in 1958; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Best is the proud and loving grandmother of twenty-six grandchildren, forty great-grandchildren, twenty-six great-great grandchildren, and one great-great-great grandson.
