WHEREAS, on September 7th, 2007, Gateway to the Arts will commemorate its 50th Anniversary with a celebration event, Tap into Art; and
WHEREAS, Gateway to the Arts has served the arts and education community of Western Pennsylvania for the last 50 years with auditorium programs, artists-in-residence, professional development for educators, and public round-table discussions; and
WHEREAS, Gateway to the Arts has touched over 7.8 million students, parents and teachers in its mission to transform the lives and education of children through active participation in the arts; and
WHEREAS, Rob Marshall is the honorary chair of Gateway to the Arts 50th Anniversary and will be honored at events on September 4th, 2007 and September 7th, 2007; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall is a graduate of Taylor Allderdice High School and Carnegie Mellon University; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall is best known for his role as director of the films Chicago and Memoirs of a Geisha; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Marshall was recently awarded the Pennsylvania Artist of the Year by Governor Rendell.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the 50th Anniversary of Gateway to the Arts and commends Rob Marshall for his work in the arts and for being an example of the positive influence of arts education in Western Pennsylvania; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares September 4th, 2007, "Rob Marshall Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
