WHEREAS, The Parkinson Foundation Western PA (PFWPA) was founded in 1995 to serve Parkinson patients through education, activities and research; and,
WHEREAS, More than 1.5 million Americans suffer from the effects of Parkinson’s disease (PD), an incurable neurological disorder; and
WHEREAS, Approximately 60,000 new cases of the disease are diagnosed each year in the United States; and
WHEREAS, There are an estimated 10,000 people living with PD in Western Pennsylvania; and,
WHEREAS, for two decades, PFWPA has fought PD and successfully served Parkinson patients by establishing support groups and activities, providing education and publicity concerning the disease, and providing support for research; and,
WHEREAS, on Saturday, September 26, 2015, PFWPA will hold its annual fundraiser walk, “Step Forward Pittsburgh”, at the Highland Park reservoir; and,
WHEREAS, the day promises to be filled with entertaining games, huge prizes, upbeat music, cooling refreshments and for the entire family; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Parkinson Foundation Western PA for its contributions to people with Parkinson disease and congratulates them on their 20th Anniversary; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, September 26, 2015, to be “PFWPA Step Forward” Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
