WHEREAS, the Amen Corner is a prestigious organization which has been a Pittsburgh tradition since 1870 and whose purpose is to encourage camaraderie, fraternity and relationships amongst people of all walks of life; and,
WHEREAS, the Amen Corner has been honoring members of the Judiciary of Allegheny County and the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 50 years and for the last seven years has honored the memory of Judge Robert E. Dauer with an award in his name for Judicial Leadership and Excellence ; and,
WHEREAS, this year's recipient of the Judge Robert E. Dauer Award for Judicial Leadership and Excellence is the Honorable Jeffrey A. Manning, the Administrative Judge of the Criminal Division of the Court of Common Pleas; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Jeffrey Manning, a graduate of Dickinson College and Duquesne University School of Law, is an Adjunct Professor of Law at Duquesne University School of Law. He was an Assistant District Attorney where he became one of Allegheny County's most effective prosecutors followed by being named an Assistant U.S. Attorney in 1976, later promoted to First Assistant U.S. Attorney which made him the number two prosecutor in Western PA; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Manning was appointed to the bench and then elected to a 10 year term in 1989 and retained for two 10 year terms in 1999 and 2009 and currently serving as Administrative Judge of the Criminal Division since 2009; and,
WHEREAS, Judge Manning has served on numerous Allegheny County Bar Association Committees including Chair of the Bench-Bar Conference, the Judiciary Committee, Criminal Litigation Section, the Louis Little Scholarship Committee, the Federal Court Section, the ACBA Players, the Fee Dispute Committee and the ACBA Board of Governors. Judge Manning was recently appointed by the PA Supreme Court to the Criminal Procedural Rules Committee and has served as a Commissioner of the Pennsylvania Sentencing Commission.
