WHEREAS, recovery from substance use disorders is possible through a variety of treatment resources, recovery support programs, and many other pathways; and,

WHEREAS, millions of people across the United States are living happy, healthy, and productive lives in recovery; and,
WHEREAS, a community of recovery is beneficial to overcoming misconceptions and helping people achieve long-term recovery; and,
WHEREAS, on September 16th, 2023, the eighth annual Pittsburgh Recovery Walk will take place across the region to celebrate the process and beauty of recovery from substance use disorder; and,
WHEREAS, Dennis Haynes has been a passionate Recovery Advocate in his role at UPMC Western Psychiatric Hospital’s Center for Psychiatric and Chemical Dependency Services and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Alyssa Mainhart has been an exceptional Recovery Caregiver in her role at Foundations Medical Services and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Kenneth Clowes has been a dedicated Recovery Pathway Supporter in his role at Butler County Community College and beyond; and
WHEREAS, Dennis Haynes, Alyssa Mainhart, and Kenneth Clowes have been presented with Pittsburgh Recovery Awards by the 2023 Pittsburgh Recovery Walk;
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare the month of September 2023 to be “Addiction Recovery Month” in the City of Pittsburgh, and recognizes Dennis Haynes, Alyssa Mainhart, and Kenneth Clowes for their extraordinary efforts to support recovery in our region.
