WHEREAS, Evelyn Borghini Neiser was born in Glendale and her family moved to Sheraden in 1951 where she attended Langley High School and graduated in 1957; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Neiser is the mother of two children, Jill and Ron who both attended Sheraden Elementary School where she was homeroom mother and then Treasurer of the PTA and in 1969 she became one of the first Parent Representatives and later served as the Chairperson of the Langley Cluster; and,
WHEREAS, Evelyn was one of the original members starting the Sheraden Community Council which still exists today and she was an original member starting the Sheraden Softball Association; and,
WHEREAS, Evelyn was appointed to the Pittsburgh Board of Public Education in 1975 and was elected President of the first elected school board established in 1911 where she served off and on for almost 20 years; she served on many school board committees as Chairperson and was the only school board member to visit all 100 city schools at that time; and,
WHEREAS, during that time, she served as the director on the Pennsylvania School Boards Association, District 13 for 8 years and served on the National School Boards Association for 8 years; Ms. Neiser also served on the Pittsburgh Interscholastic Athletic Association and the PA Interscholastic Athletic Association for several years and could be seen on the sidelines at many games; and,
WHEREAS, Ms. Neiser retired in 2004 from the Allegheny County Jury Commission after 25 years as an Investigator, but still remains active in her community by looking after elderly neighbors and organizing reunions for classes and other groups; she was presented an award by the Sheraden Community Council and the Kiwanis Club of Sheraden for being an outstanding community leader; and,
WHEREAS, Evelyn has been a Democratic Committee Woman for 32 years and presently serves as the Vice Chairperson for the 20th Ward and she is a founding member of the...
