WHEREAS, the Diocese of Pittsburgh celebrates Catholic Schools Week January 30 through February 5, 2011 with events emphasizing the theme "Catholic Schools: A+ for America"; and,
WHEREAS, Catholic Schools Week began in 1974 and it is a joint project of the National Catholic Educational Association, the world's largest private, professional education association and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops; and,
WHEREAS, this Year's theme, "Catholic Schools: A+ for America", celebrates the fact that Catholic schools are a plus for the nation due to their traditionally high academic standards and high graduation rates; and,
WHEREAS, in addition to the academics, Catholic Schools add strong moral values and a high level of service to local communities because of the many service projects students undertake which all add up to a positive contribution to American society; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Diocese of Pittsburgh for continuing to have a reputation for academic excellence and instilling spiritual values in your students; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, February 1, 2011, to be "Catholic Schools Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
