WHEREAS, in 1958, Giovanni "John" Mineo set out to enter the bakery business but instead learned the pizza business, and at a time when pizzerias were few, established a small shop which ultimately became a Pittsburgh tradition; and,
WHEREAS, Giovanni's two sons, Dominic and Giovanni Jr., took over the family business and though Giovanni passed away a few years ago, his sons grew the operation and still held to their father's traditions; and,
WHEREAS, Dominic and Giovanni Mineo Jr. strive to ensure that the quality of the pizza made at their shop remains the same outstanding quality from the day the shop opened, never compromising ingredients or changing the recipes while making their own sauce and grating their own cheese with the help of their employees in their two stores; and,
WHEREAS, Mineo's Pizza with two locations, one on Murray Avenue in Squirrel Hill and another on Washington Road in Mt. Lebanon , has won numerous awards and has been named the city's best pizza every year from nearly every media outlet ; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby congratulate Mineo's Pizza House on its 50th year in business and commend and Dominic and Giovanni Mineo Jr. for maintaining their father's vision of excellence and service to make Mineo's Pizza a Pittsburgh tradition; and ,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, September 15, 2008, to be "MINEO'S PIZZA HOUSE DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
