WHEREAS, Celebrate and Share was founded by Bonnie DiCarlo and JoAnn R. Forrester to feature the achievements of women and raise funds for organizations which focus on the needs of women and children in our community; and,
WHEREAS, this year's event, whose honorary Co-Chairs are District Attorney Steve and Mary Zappala , will be a breakfast honoring "Women of Achievement" in 22 areas including business, law, banking, non-profit, finance, academia, education and media in the Pittsburgh area on March 4, 2009, at The Rivers Club; and,
WHEREAS, this year's event will donate their proceeds to SIDS of PA's Cribs for Kids, which works to reduce the risk of SIDS by providing a safe-sleep environment for low income families who cannot afford cribs for their infants; and,
WHEREAS, Cribs for Kids was founded in 1998 by District Attorney Stephen A. Zappala, the late Mayor Bob O'Connor, the late Commander Gwen Elliot and SIDS of PA Executive Director Judith Bannon; and,
WHEREAS, Cribs for Kids' successful "Back to Sleep Campaign" has resulted in a 50% reduction in the incidence of SIDS in Pennsylvania and the receipt of the National Sleep Foundation's 2008 Healthy Sleep Community Award ; and,
WHEREAS, Executive Director Judy Bannon works tirelessly to spread the word about reducing SIDS through providing cribs for infants and educating parents about practicing safe sleep for their babies; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Celebrate and Share for its vision to honor 22 accomplished women and to Judy Bannon for her dedicated work on behalf of the babies of Pennsylvania; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare March 4, 2009, to be "CRIBS FOR KIDS DAY" in the City of Pittsburgh.
