Whereas, The Spirit of King Award ceremony, occurring this year on January 13, 2005 at the Kingsley Center in East Liberty, marks its 17th year; and
Whereas, established in 1989, The Spirit of King Award is still sponsored annually by its founding organizations: the Kingsley Association, the Port Authority of Allegheny County and the Pittsburgh Pirates; and
Whereas, The Spirit of King Award honors the lifetime achievements of local citizens who pursue human rights and equality, which exemplify the passion of civil rights activist, Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.; and
Whereas, the names of this year's awardees, Mrs. Florence Silberstein Reizenstein (1901-1970) and Reverend Elmer Louis Williams (1931-1990) will be added to the bronze plaque located in the Martin Luther King, Jr. East Busway Wilhelmina Byrd-Brown Parklet, named after the award's first recipient, now totaling 25 honorees.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that Pittsburgh City Council provide each 2005 awardee of The Spirit of King Award, Mrs. Reizenstein and Reverend Williams, with an individual promulgation that follows, respectively, and together with this introduction are considered one proclamation, in three parts; and

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that January 13, 2005 be declared The Spirit of King Day in the City of Pittsburgh in honor of the lifework of Mrs. Florence Silberstein Reizenstein and Reverend Elmer Louis Williams.
