Whereas, the Federation of War Veterans Societies, Incorporated was formed in 1919; and
Whereas, its purpose was to annually provide a veterans day parade in downtown Pittsburgh in conjunction with Allegheny County and the city of Pittsburgh; and
Whereas, the Federation of War Veterans Societies, Incorporated has organized and put on the Veterans Day parade for Pittsburgh for 91 years; and
Whereas, more than 1.2 million Pennsylvanians are veterans, comprising 14% of our Commonwealth population, and a great percentage who reside in Allegheny County and the City of Pittsburgh; and
Whereas, to honor the active military personnel who are maintaining those freedoms which we enjoy today; and
Whereas, to continue to educate the residents of the City of Pittsburgh on the importance of recognizing our veterans and all they have sacrificed, not only for the City of Pittsburgh, but also their nation; and

Now, therefore, be it resolved, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend the Federation of War Veterans Societies, Incorporated for all the hard work that has been done over the years; and
Be it further resolved that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh proclaims that Thursday, November 11, 2010 be hereby declared as the Federation of War Veterans Societies, Incorporated Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
