Title: THEREFORE LET IT BE RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to honor the life and legacy of Officer Ron Smith and extends its warmest wishes to his family upon the unveiling of a plaque in his honor at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society on Monday, September 26, 2016; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in honor of Officer Smith's legacy, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, September 26th to be "Ron Smith Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Officer Ron Smith served Western Pennsylvania with honor and compassion for over 41 years and the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society is honoring his life and work with a plaque unveiling on Monday, September 26, 2016; and,

 

WHEREAS, Officer Smith devoted his life to making the communities he served safer for animals and people by responding to calls and rescuing animals from dangerous situations.  He worked at the Western Pennsylvania Humane Society for over 40 years, starting at a kennel at his local Human Society and finishing his career as the Chief of Humane Investigations for the WPHS; and,

 

WHEREAS, everyone who worked with Officer Smith knew him to be a dedicated and hardworking individual who always approached every situation with care and empathy.  One colleague remarked that “Officer Smith was one of the fairest human beings I have ever known.”  He was great at his job because he had sympathy for humans as well as great sympathy for animals;” and,

 

WHEREAS, in 2014 Officer Smith passed away, leaving behind a legacy that will extend for countless years into the future.  Officer Smith made the world a better a place by his example of work and service to his community; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that in honor of Officer Smith’s legacy, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Monday, September 26th to be “Ron Smith Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
