WHEREAS, St Mary of the Mount School began serving families of K-8th grade children with Christian teaching, moral guidance and educational success in 1910 and was merged with Bishop Leonard Catholic School in 2006 to become Bishop Leonard-St Mary of the Mount Academy; and,
WHEREAS, the school has been consistently rated above national norms in the Iowa Tests of Basic Skills for all grade levels and has offered innovative classes and teaching methods and extensive extracurricular activities such as championship basketball, volleyball, band, cheerleading and spiritual programs; and,
WHEREAS, Bishop Leonard-Saint Mary of the Mount Academy believed in the promise of the future because they saw the image of God in each child and believed in preparing the students to develop their God-given abilities to their fullest potential - spiritually, intellectually, emotionally and physically; and,
WHEREAS, the school will be closing after this year and is honoring their 102 year old community legacy on Friday, June 1, 2012 with current & former students; and,
WHEREAS, a Mass with Fr. Michael will be held at the school followed by dinner and activities which will include face painting, balloon animals, tug-of-war, a memorable "past and Present Power Point and much more; and,

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commends Bishop Leonard-St. Mary of the Mount Academy for their 102 years of service to the children of the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, June 1, 2012, to be "Bishop Leonard-St. Mary of the Mount Academy Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
