Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby call upon the City of Pittsburgh's Department of Finance to accept real estate tax payments postmarked January 3, 2011 without penalty or assignment to Jordan Tax Service.

WHEREAS, in previous years, the City of Pittsburgh Department of Finance required a postmark of December 31st to avoid a 10% penalty on City and school district real estate taxes and assignment to Jordan Tax Service; and
 
WHEREAS, several United States Post Office locations changed collection hours on December 31, 2010 without broad notification; and
 
WHEREAS, due to this unexpected change, some payments will not be postmarked until January 3, 2011, the first business day of the new year, when taxpayers attempted to pay by the December 31 deadline; and
 
WHEREAS, because of the January 3rd postmark, taxpayers may be assessed a penalty.
