WHEREAS, Achieving Greatness, Inc., now in its 50th consecutive year of dedicated community service. Established in 1974 as the Champions Association, the agency continues its mission as Achieving Greatness, Inc., providing educational, recreational, social, athletic, employment, and community-based programs with no exception to age, gender, religion, national origin, residence, identification, or political affiliation and;
WHEREAS, The agency is the proud sponsor of twenty plus programs a year, including the national and internationally recognized Connie Hawkins NCAA/Pro/Summer Basketball League for men and women, The Franco Harris All-Pro Football Camp, The Willie Pops Stargell Pittsburgh MVP Awards Banquet, The Kenny Durrett High School All Star Basketball Classic (25 year operation,second only to the famed Dapper Dan Roundball Classic), The Bishop Duane Darkins Senior Citizen Thanksgiving Dinner, The Pittsburgh/Allegheny County All Military and Public Service Awards, The Dwayne Woodruff Celebrity Golf Classic, Toys for Champions Christmas Party Toy Giveaway, and the now iconic Pittsburgh City League High School All Sports Hall of Fame and;
WHEREAS, for the past 50 years, this organization has impacted the lives of young people from every corner of Western Pennsylvania playing a key role in the development of our region’s most celebrated athletes and;
WHEREAS, Achieving Greatness will hold their 50th anniversary gala on Saturday October 5th 13th, 2024 and;

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and congratulate Achieving Greatness on their 50th anniversary; and;
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, October, 5th, 2024 to be “Achieving Greatness Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
