Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh thanks the Jewish Sports Hall of Fame for its commitment to youth athletics and congratulates the 2008 inductees; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 18, 2008, “Jewish Sports Hall of Fame Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on May 18, 2008, the Western Pennsylvania  Jewish Sports Hall of Fame will host its annual induction ceremony and banquet; and
 
WHEREAS, the Hall of Fame honors Jewish high school, college and professional athletes from Western Pennsylvania for their outstanding performance in various athletic fields; and
 
WHEREAS, the 2008 inductees are:
Joel Alcoff, M.D., Weight Lifting
Noah Caplan, Swimming
Elizabeth R. Daniels, Swimming
Rodney W. Fink, Handball; and
 
WHEREAS, Stephen A. Katz will be honored with the Ziggy Kahn Memorial Award; and
 
WHEREAS, since its inception, the Western Pa Jewish Sports Hall of Fame has raised over $350,000 to fund youth sports; and
 
WHEREAS, organizations that have received funds from the Western Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame include 14th Ward Baseball, B'Nai B'rith Youth Organization, Community Day School, Emma Kaufman Camp, Hillel, the Jewish Community Center, Project Dror of Karmiel Misgav Region of Israel, Squirrel Hill Baseball, and Yeshiva.
