Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 12th, 2026 to be “Alphabet Trail and Tales Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, since 2000, Alphabet Trail and Tales has showcased the best in early and elementary story books brought to life. Each year, Alphabet Trail and Tales invites nonprofits, schools, and organizations with a family focus to celebrate 26 ‘Life-Size’ Letters of the alphabet with zany fun from A to Z with interactive story sets, art, music, games, and fun for the whole family; and,

 

WHEREAS, conceived as Storywalk by Laurie Moser, a board member of the Beginning with Books Early Literary Center, the event is known today as Alphabet Trail and Tales; and,

 

WHEREAS, the trail covers a half-mile campus on an old Victorian golf course, providing the perfect setting for the event for more than 5,000 children and families annually. More than eighty books, including Caldecott Medal winners, have been brought to life at the event over the past 25 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, the Alphabet Trail and Tales event is supported by CitiParks Community Recreation; the Department of Public Works -3rd Division; City Carpenters; Department of Public Safety; and a dedicated staff of community artists, educators, volunteers; and,

 

WHEREAS, this year’s Alphabet Trail and Tales will occur on Saturday, September 12, 2026, from 10:00am to 1:00pm at the Frick Park Blue Slide Playground. Alphabet Trail and Tales will feature books such as Riding Magic by Kelly Starling Lyons, Henry and the Buccaneer Bunnies by Carolyn Crimi, Is This Your Class Pet by Troy Cummings, and more;
