Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates and commends the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center for efforts to educate, train, and communicate with today's youth.

Whereas, The Pittsburgh Job Corps Center Community Relations Council will host a Scholarship Fund Dinner and Auction on Thursday, October 23, 2003 at the Rivers Club One Oxford Center; and,

 

Whereas, Established in 1964, Job Corps is the U.S. Labor Department's free enterprise answer to skill training for disadvantage youth.  The Pittsburgh Chapter opened in 1972 and currently serves 850 young men and women.

 

Whereas, The Pittsburgh Job Corps Centers goal is to enable students to maximize their potential and become productive respected citizens in our society; and

 

Whereas, The Pittsburgh Job Corps Center will honor the following persons for their dedication and service to the students of Job Corps in the pursuit of furthering their education: Malik Bankston, Executive Director of the Kingsley Center; Gwen Elliot, Founder and CEO of Gwen's Girls and Vernon Stanfield, Key Account Manager, Drug Divisior/Ethinic Foods, Pepsi Co.; and

 

Whereas, the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center is committed to supporting young adults in achieving excellence in vocational, academic, social and employability skills;

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the council of the City of Pittsburgh congratulates and commends the Pittsburgh Job Corps Center for efforts to educate, train, and communicate with today's youth.
