Title: WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works employs dedicated and talented public works professionals who serve their community with strength and resilience, and The City of Pittsburgh wishes to recognize their efforts and accomplishments in serving the public; and,

WHEREAS, the Department of Public Works employs dedicated and talented public works professionals who serve their community with strength and resilience, and The City of Pittsburgh wishes to recognize their efforts and accomplishments in serving the public; and,

WHEREAS, public works professionals focus on building, operating, and maintaining, infrastructure, facilities, and services that are of vital importance for the sustainability and resilience of communities and for the public’s health, providing high quality of life and well-being to the people of The City of Pittsburgh; and,

 

WHEREAS, these essential services could not be provided without the dedicated efforts of the public works professionals in The Department of Public Works, who are responsible for collecting refuse and recyclables, maintaining City streets, preserving park spaces, and rehabilitating public facilities essential for our citizens; and,

 

WHEREAS, it is in the public’s interest for the citizens, civic leaders, and children in The City of Pittsburgh to gain knowledge of and to maintain an ongoing interest and understanding of the importance of public works and public works programs in their respective communities; and,

 

WHEREAS, the year 2023 marks the 63rd annual National Public Works Week sponsored by the American Public Works Association/Canadian Public Works Association; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends our Public Works employees for their vital contributions to our community; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare May 21-27, 2023, as “Public Works Week” in the City of Pittsburgh.
