WHEREAS, The Women's Division, Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention has a continuing commitment to work tirelessly to improve the spiritual position and condition of women and children; and
WHEREAS, the focus is directed toward missionary, educational, evangelistic and human rights endeavors especially for women and children enmeshed in poverty; and
WHEREAS, the local officers of the Pennsylvania Baptist State Convention are comprised of:
Minister Joan Lawrence, President
Sister Betty White, First Vice President
Reverend Juanita Ross, Second Vice President
Sister Virginia Lewis, Recording Secretary
Sister Yvonne Williams, Assistant Recording Secretary
Joan B. Clark, PhD Corresponding Secretary
Sister Evora Towns, Financial Secretary
Sister Roberta Moore, Assistant Financial Secretary
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Western Region Women's Ministry achieved this noteworthy endeavor through individual commitment, collaboration and discipline; and
WHEREAS, the Pennsylvania Western Region Women's Ministry is sponsoring the "Women of Distinction" social event at the North Hills Holiday Inn on August 15th, 2009, from 1:00pm - 4:00pm.
WHEREAS, the theme for the event is "Unity, Perseverance and Understanding". The theme is a summary of the prayer in the third verse of Lift Every Voice and Sing and the keynote speaker will be Reverend Wanda Sawyer.

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby recognize and commend the Pennsylvania Western Region Women's Ministry for evangelizing and encouraging the importance of church throughout Southwestern Pennsylvania; and
BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby declare August 15, 2009, "Women of Distinction Day", in the City of Pittsburgh.
