WHEREAS, Barrel & Flow, America’s favorite brew festival two years running, will again be held in Pittsburgh at The Stacks at 3 Crossings, an open-air plaza on the Allegheny River in the historic Strip District on August 10th; and,

WHEREAS, while the ‘Barrel’ refers to the brews and the ‘Flow’ to performing artists and speakers-Barrel & Flow has grown to be not only a Saturday festival, but also a week of City-wide events that utilizes the brewing industry to celebrate and empower the Black community, and joyfully showcase brewers, distillers, vendors, artists, and musicians with performances, symposiums, a speakers series, and Brewer’s Brunch; and,
WHEREAS, over 100 breweries and distilleries will be a part of Barrel & Flow in 2024, many of them linked with Black artists, performers, and businesses for unique collaboration brews; and,
WHEREAS, 2024 collaborations include:
• Pennsylvania State Representative Lindsay Powell and Acrospire Brewing Co. in Glenshaw
• Pittsburgh City Councilman Khari Mosley and Two Frays Brewery in Garfield
• Burghers Brewing Company in the South Side for a ‘Proclamation’-themed banana strawberry, guava, banana gose; and,
WHEREAS, Forbes magazine values the United States beer market as a $120 billion+ dollar industry, and of the 9,700+ breweries across the nation, 86 are Black-owned, none yet in Pittsburgh nor Allegheny County; and,
WHEREAS, Barrel & Flow is committed to pay transparency and elevating industry access for Black people through Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (STEAM) activities at the festival, networking, and job opportunities.
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby proclaim August 6th through August 11th, 2024, as "Barrel & Flow Week" in the City of Pittsburgh.
