WHEREAS, in 1990 a dream to reach and positively influence children began in Somerset, Pennsylvania with the Caring Habit of the Month Adventure pilot program; and
WHEREAS, the Caring Habit of the Month Adventure program consists of a 12 month program with different colors and positive themes, such as February's theme of "You Count", along with buttons, fliers and activities, to implement the theme throughout the month; and
WHEREAS, through the Caring Habit of the Month Adventure program each participant takes more responsibility for their own actions by adopting and focusing on each month's theme; and
WHEREAS, in 2001-2003, evaluation studies were conducted by the University of Pittsburgh Graduate School of Public Health and concluded that where the Caring Habit of the Month Program has been instituted the number of honor roll students is increasing and indicators of disciplinary action for negative behavior is declining; and
WHEREAS, funded with a grant from the Birmingham Foundation, the Mt. Washington Community Development Corporation along with The Caring Habit of the Month Adventure Program/All of Us, Inc. are implementing the program for the first time in the Mt. Washington and Duquesne Heights neighborhood schools, library, businesses and community with the goal being implementation in neighborhoods throughout the City of Pittsburgh.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh Congratulates those involved with the Caring Habit of the Month Program in the Mt. Washington, Duquesne Heights Neighborhoods and wishes them much success with the Caring Habit of the Month Adventure Program "It Takes Our Whole Community" Project.
