Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend the Save Race Street Committee for their efforts to enhance the quality of life for others as they empower the Homewood Community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh, does hereby proclaim Saturday, December 19, 2009, as the “Save Race Street Committee” day in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, the Save Race Street Committee, inspired by the forethought of Mr. Terry Fluker, convened on November 1, 2008. Its mission is to improve the quality of life for the residents of Race Street, which is located in the East End section of the City of Pittsburgh; and
 
WHEREAS, in collaboration with Operation Better Block, this group of neighborhood residents and stakeholders strive to organize their community in order to restore hope and encourage residents to reclaim their community; and
 
WHEREAS, standing on the platform "enough is enough," the increase of abandoned and vacant lots, crime and despair, will no longer be tolerated. Since its inception the Race Street Committee has cleaned up lots and held yard sales in order to continue their efforts; and
 
WHEREAS, the Save the Race Street Committee envisions a community where families can be safe, children can play and where our elderly residents are not confined to their homes. The Board Members of the Race Street Committee are:
