WHEREAS, the volunteers of the Greater Philadelphia Falun Dafa Association are proud to bring Shen Yun to the City of Pittsburgh. The world’s premier classical Chinese dance company, Shen Yun Performing Arts, are performing at the Benedum Center from January 14-15, 2023, marking the 11th year that Shen Yun has visited Pittsburgh; and

WHEREAS, the company was established in New York state in 2006 with the mission of reviving 5,000 years of traditional Chinese culture, which had been lost in many ways under Chinese Communist Party rule. Today, Shen Yun is banned in China; and,
WHEREAS, Shen Yun means “The beauty of heavenly beings dancing.” Shen Yun
is more than just a performance-it is a revival of the beauty and goodness of
China before communism. With stories and legends, vibrant costumes and
backdrops, and original music-it is an experience that will delight your
senses, inspire your heart, and just leave you feeling great; and,
WHEREAS, Shen Yun represents the artistic freedom of our nation’s great democracy, adapting ancient traditions for the modern stage and its popularity reflects a growing need for goodness, harmony, and renewal; and
WHEREAS, through breathtaking dance and music, the artists quickly move from one legend, region, or dynasty to the next; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Shen Yun and the significance of the company's contribution to the advancement of the arts in Pennsylvania; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, January 14-15, 2023 to be “Shen Yun Days” in the City of Pittsburgh.
