Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor the memory of Loretta Coleman and sends our deepest condolences to her family; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, June 9, 2017, to be "Loretta Coleman Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Loretta (Clancy) Coleman was born on August 16, 1946 to the late Jasper Clancy and Otha Tillman; and, 

 

WHEREAS, Loretta, affectionately known as “Rett” by family and friends, was raised and lived in the Hill District her entire life.  Loretta married the late Robert E. Coleman and together had six children; Sherry, Robyn, Allen, Lisa, Randy, and Lori; and,

 

WHEREAS, Loretta accepted Christ at an early age; she was baptized at Nazarene Baptist Church and later reconnected to her savior at Macedonia Baptist Church where she served as an usher for 37 years and was part of the NAM, Baptism, Usher, and 1st Friday ministries; and,

 

WHEREAS, Loretta was a Pittsburgh Public School Crossing Guard for over 30 years where she watched over countless children until her retirement.  She knew every one of them by name and everyone knew her; and,

 

WHEREAS, her involvement in community events and numerous organizations is how she became known as the “Mayor of the Hill District.”  She was an integral part of The Lower Hill Outreach, PTA Groups, The Ozanam Strings, Food Bank volunteer, Diabetes Support group, and The G & M Club (Grandmothers and Mothers) of Pittsburgh who organized countless fundraisers and bus trips to various places and events for all the children in the community; and,

 

WHEREAS, Loretta loved being with her family and attending events such as family reunions, cookouts, and sporting events of her children, 21 grandchildren, and 31 great-grandchildren; and,

 

WHEREAS, on May 31, 2017, surrounded by her children and loved ones, her heavenly father called her home to receive her wings; and,
