Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Community Human Services Corporation for its important work in the South Oakland community and in the entire Pittsburgh area and congratulates CHSC for bringing the issue of homelessness to the public with its SLEEP-IN FOR THE HOMELESS program; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Friday, October 17, 2008, to be “SLEEP-IN FOR THE HOMELESS DAY” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Community Human Services Corporation seeks to enhance people's lives and strengthen communities by providing opportunities to develop individual potential and by delivering comprehensive services that maximize the health and well-being of those it serves in South Oakland and the greater Pittsburgh area ; and,
 
WHEREAS,  Community Human Services was organized in 1970 to recognize the potential of South Oakland residents and begin a revitalization effort to recruit neighbors to help with the task of stabilizing the community and has grown into a large agency providing a wide range of services whose mission is that of the settlement house which was prevalent at the turn of the century and whose purpose is to organize services that are comprehensive, managed by indigenous and professional people and which become occasions to mix classes and races in environments that promote celebration; and,
WHEREAS, Community Human Services will be holding SLEEP-IN FOR THE HOMELESS, a public awareness fundraiser supporting emergency shelter, health clinics, housing, street outreach and rental assistance for the homeless served at Community Human Services, on Friday, October 17, 2008, from 6:30 PM to 6:30 AM in the Lobby of the City County Building in downtown Pittsburgh.
