Title: WHEREAS, since the opening of the Allentown Senior Center in 1977, the center has offered programs to meet educational socialization, recreational, and counseling needs of older adults; and,

WHEREAS, since the opening of the Allentown Senior Center in 1977, the center has offered programs to meet educational socialization, recreational, and counseling needs of older adults; and,

WHEREAS, the Allentown Senior Center is one of the oldest currently operating in Council District 3 for anyone 60 years or older within Allegheny County; and,

 

WHEREAS, Hugh Brannan has been the Center Director for 46 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Michelle Silliman has been the Center Coordinator for 6 years and with the agency for 32 years; and,

 

WHEREAS, Hugh, Michelle, and many other dedicated employees and volunteers have given their time and care into hosting events and activities for older adults; and,

 

WHEREAS, these efforts have made the Allentown Senior Center into a valuable space that offers senior resources, promotes the mental and physical wellbeing of individuals, and brings the community together; and,

 

NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh recognizes the importance of the Allentown Senior Center to the community and extends its deepest appreciation to all staff and volunteers; and,

 

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare June 27, 2024, as “Allentown Senior Center Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
