WHEREAS, Lamonte E. Wilson has recently retired as the first African American Fire Chief for the Allegheny County Airport Authority where he held this position since March 1996; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson is an accomplished firefighter, holding many certifications such as Critical Intervention Peer Support, WMD/Terrorism Incident Defensive Operations for Emergency Responders, and Fire Arson Investigator; and
WHEREAS, Mr.Wilson has participated in activities such as M.T.A.C. Mid Atlantic Technology Application center, Committee to convert NASA (space) technology to everyday fire fighting applications and, DPS Honor Guard, in addition to many others. Mr. Wilson was inducted into the Heinz History Center, in November 2004, and received The Black Trailblazers
Award from Renaissance Publications in 2003; and
WHEREAS, Mr. Wilson has dedicated himself to fighting fires which is one of the most hazardous professions, requiring physical strength, stamina,
extensive training, courage, selflessness, and concern for the welfare for the people he serves.

NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Council of City of Pittsburgh
does herby join the citizens of Pittsburgh and Allegheny County to express
congratulations and gratitude to Chief Lamonte E. Wilson on the occasion of his retirement.
BE FURTHUR RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare September 26, 2006 "Lamonte E.Wilson" Day in the City of Pittsburgh.
