WHEREAS, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is a nonprofit, donor-supported organization devoted to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and improving the quality of life for those currently suffering from the disease; and,
WHEREAS, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has been lauded in Forbes Magazine, Discover Magazine, and the Wall Street Journal, and it was hailed as a model organization for the care of a chronic disease by the National Institutes of Health; and,
WHEREAS, each year in eighty cities across the country, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation hosts the "50 Finest Gala" honoring 25 men and 25 women for their career accomplishments and their dedication to helping the foundation raise money to discover a cure; and,
WHEREAS, each of this year's fifty honorees raised at least $3,000 for the cause; and,
WHEREAS, of the eighty other cities that host similar annual galas, the Western Pennsylvania chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation has raised more money than any other chapter in the nation; and,
WHEREAS, last year, more than 600 people attended Pittsburgh's 50 Finest Gala and raised more than $300,000 for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation; and,
WHEREAS, on August 14th, 2014, the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation will host the 19th annual gala at the Omni William Penn Hotel.
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation for its devotion to finding a cure for Cystic Fibrosis and this year's 50 honorees for their success in raising money for the organization; and,

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare August 14th, 2014 as "Pittsburgh's 50 Finest Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.
