WHEREAS, Kurt Huber is a lifelong resident of the City of Pittsburgh, growing up with his parents and 2 siblings at REAM Pool and Recreation Center in Mount Washington at a time when the city had caretakers living on site; and,

WHEREAS, Kurt began with the City of Pittsburgh as a Part-Time employee as a Basket Boy at Beechview Pool and became a lifeguard in 1973 while in High School. Since then, Kurt moved up the ranks and is currently the Aquatics Coordinator handling the maintenance of all the City Pools; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Huber’s father, Elmer Huber, was the first City Pool Supervisor in the early 50s and started the first City Pools Division in 1972. He created the Bioguarding Certificate Program with Allegheny County, which Kurt now operates; and,
WHEREAS, Mr. Huber has over 20 years’ experience providing Bacterial Analysis of the City Pools and over 15 years of designing filtration systems for the City Pools, exceeding his father in years of service to the city in the Aquatics Division; and,
WHEREAS, he has a total of 51 years with the City of Pittsburgh and continues to help keep residents and patrons of the City Pools safe; and
WHEREAS, Kurt and his wife Nancy have raised 2 daughters and now have 3 grandchildren, Casey, Alicia, and Cameron with whom he enjoys; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize and commend Kurt Huber for his years of service with the City of Pittsburgh; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 to be “Kurt Huber Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
