Title
Resolution authorizing the Mayor to accept on behalf of the City of Pittsburgh a grant from E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company in the total amount of Seventy Five Thousand Dollars ($75,000) for the purpose of implementing the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative, and further authorizing the Mayor to (1) enter into an agreement or agreements with Green and Healthy Homes Initiative for professional services related to technical assistance in the onboarding process, and (2) spend remaining funds for purchases relating to the initiative implementation.
Body
WHEREAS, over 95 percent of residential units in the City of Pittsburgh were built prior to 1978, exposing them to a high risk of lead; and
WHEREAS, 62 percent of the nearly 30,000 children ages 16 and younger in the City who were screened between 2009 and 2013 had detectable lead levels in their blood; and
WHEREAS, the City of Pittsburgh wishes to improve and make safer existing housing stock in underserved communities; and
WHEREAS, E.I. DuPont de Nemours & Company has provided grant funding to the City from its Lead Safe for Kids' Sake award, in order to implement the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative; and
WHEREAS, the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative has provided technical assistance to 18 other sites across the country in designing and implementing their cross-sector model for combining health and energy housing interventions into an efficient delivery model that improves health and energy efficiency outcomes for low-income families; and
WHEREAS, working with the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative will allow the City and its partners to benefit from the knowledge and experience of a national organization that has helped 18 other sites design local Green and Healthy Homes Initiative programs; and
WHEREAS, these grant funds will be spent on adopting the Green and Healthy Homes Initiative and increasing all partners' data capacity.
