WHEREAS, the East Allegheny Community Council is celebrating a milestone anniversary this year as it hosts its 25th annual Pumpkinfest on Saturday, October 8th at East Commons Park; and,
WHEREAS, for multiple generations, EACC’s Pumpkinfest has become a family tradition as residents from all over the City of Pittsburgh come to the Northside to welcome autumn. Pumpkinfest is run by a dedicated team of over 200 volunteers who make the event come to life each year. These volunteers provide the means to transform the park into a safe, fun place to laugh, learn, and share with friends, parents, and neighbors; and,
WHEREAS, Pumpkinfest currently attracts an audience of nearly 6,000 people to East Park each year, more than 1,500 who are children. This year, to mark the 25th anniversary of Pumpkinfest the EACC will plant commemorative trees in East Park on the site of the celebration each year and sponsor a Children’s Time Capsule Project to be opened in the year 2041; and,
WHEREAS, over 50 social service, public safety, and educational organizations participate in the celebration every year. Citiparks, Pittsburgh Public Works, Allegheny Center Alliance Church, Northside Leadership Conference and local fraternities and service groups also help make the event successful each year. Allegheny General Hospital also hosts a Community Health Fair that provides screenings, bike helmets and other health related information to the public; and,

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that as the EACC Pumpkinfest celebrates its twenty-fifth anniversary, the Council of the City of Pittsburgh wishes to recognize and thank all who work to make it such a superb event for the North Side each and every year; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Saturday, October 8th to be “EACC Pumpkinfest Day” in the City of Pittsburgh!
