Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby honor Family Resources for their dedication to families and children in our community; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare April 2006, "Child Abuse Prevention Month" in the City of Pittsburgh.

Whereas, Family Resources is a leader in combating child abuse though programs that treat the whole family, including the perpetrators of violence and the victims; and
 
Whereas, child abuse is defined as behavior the results in harm or injury or that seriously interferes with normal child development; and
 
Whereas, each year victims of child abuse may endure physical, sexual, or emotional trauma; and
 
Whereas, the month of April is observed as Child Abuse Prevention Month in an effort to raise awareness about abuse, promote non-violent discipline and good communication between parents and children, and inform families about community resources; and
 
Whereas, we are all encouraged to wear blue ribbons during the month of April to alert others about the devastating consequences of child abuse; and
 
Whereas, Child Abuse Prevention Month in Western Pennsylvania will include an Awards Benefit on April 18th with honorary dinner co-chairpersons Kaye & Bill Cowher, Peggy Finnegan and Michael Donnelly; and
 
Whereas, the 2006 Child Abuse Prevention Month Honorees are:
 
      Senator Jane Orie
      Joseph Guyaux and PNC, Computer Associates and KaBoom!
      Martha Perry and the McCune Foundation
      Students from Fox Chapel High School and Shady Side Academy
      Penny Scarborough and Jennifer Mattey
