Title: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh commends and thanks Mr. Riedel for his commitment to educating students on the arts; and BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby declares May 28, 2008, “Kurt Riedel Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, on May 28, 2008, the 2008 Roy A. Hunt Foundation Award for Commitment to Education in the Arts and Humanities will be presented to Mr. Kurt Riedel during a ceremony at the Frick Art & Historical Center; and
 
WHEREAS, Mr. Riedel teaches fourth grade students at St. Bede School; and
 
WHEREAS, since 1999, Mr. Riedel has brought over 250 fourth grade students to the Frick as part of his commitment to integrating the arts and humanities into his curriculum; and
 
WHEREAS, the during the ceremony, Mr. Riedel's student will present a workshop performance and representatives of the Roy A. Hunt Foundation will present at $3,000 award to St. Bede School that will be used for future field trips and enrichment activities; and
 
WHERAS, the mission of the Roy A. Hunt Foundation is to support organizations that strive to improve the quality of life through grants to nonprofit organizations engaged primarily in arts and culture, environment, health, human services, community development, and youth violence prevention.
