WHEREAS, 412: Creative Nonfiction Festival was founded in 2004 as an opportunity for Pittsburgh editors, writers and readers to come together with publishers and writers from around the country in celebration of excellent writing; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh is home to several outstanding writing programs and a growing number of publications; and
WHEREAS, Pittsburgh has been a home for nonfiction writing since its inception; and
WHEREAS, the third 412 Festival will focus on the ethical issues writers confront when telling their stories; and
WHEREAS, this year's featured speakers will be H. G. "Buzz" Bissinger, author of Friday Night Lights and A Prayer for the City, and Kathryn Harrison, author of The Mother Knot and Thicker Than Water; and
WHEREAS, the festival will begin at noon on November 6, 2006 with a 12-hour literary marathon to kick-off the 412 week, with readings, talks and open-mic sessions, at the Gypsy Café on the Southside; and
WHEREAS, the festival will conclude on November 11, 2006 with a showcase, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m., of local and national publishers and literary groups in the Cloisters in the Frick Fine Arts Building of the University of Pittsburgh.

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh hereby commends and thanks the participants in 412: Creative Nonfiction Festival for their contribution to the Arts.
