Title: NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby recognize Bishop Emeritus David A. Zubik for his decades of faithful service and his enduring commitment to the mission of the Church; and, BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, September 30, 2025 to be "Bishop Emeritus David A. Zubik Day" in the City of Pittsburgh.

WHEREAS, Bishop David A. Zubik has faithfully served the Catholic Church and the Diocese of Pittsburgh with unwavering devotion, compassion, and integrity for over five decades; and,

WHEREAS, ordained to the priesthood on May 3, 1975, and consecrated as bishop on April 6, 1997, Bishop Zubik has held numerous pastoral and administrative roles, including Auxiliary Bishop of Pittsburgh, Bishop of Green Bay, and ultimately was appointed as the Twelfth Bishop of Pittsburgh in 2007 by Pope Benedict XVI; and,

WHEREAS, his leadership extended beyond the Diocese of Pittsburgh, serving on national and regional boards, fostering interfaith dialogue, and his advocacy and his steadfast witness in times of both joy and trial; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Zubik currently serves on numerous boards and committees including Catholic-Jewish Dialogue among many others, and recently concluded his service as Chairman of the Board of Regents at Saint Vincent Seminary, reflecting his deep commitment to spiritual leadership and community service; and,

WHEREAS, Bishop Zubik has also played active roles in civic organizations such as the United Way of Greater Pittsburgh and the Urban League of Greater Pittsburgh, and remains a devoted pastoral leader throughout decades of ministry; and,

WHEREAS, upon his retirement and in his new title as Bishop Emeritus, Bishop Zubik continues to inspire the faithful with his prayer, presence, and enduring love for the Church; and,

WHEREAS, his deep concern for the poor, the marginalized, the young, and the elderly has shaped his ministry and reflected the heart of Christ to all those he encountered; and,
