Title: THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED THAT PITTSBURGH CITY COUNCIL, on behalf of 330,000 descent world citizens in this city, stand with the millions of other world citizens this week in lending our voices to the G8 leaders with the global refrain, "Make poverty history."

Whereas, the weekend of July 2 marked the beginning of Live 8 - a global campaign to end poverty, preventable disease and premature death that is ravishing the African Continent, and
 
Whereas, world leaders from eight industrialized countries, known as the G8, which include England, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Japan, Russia and the United States will convene in Ireland this week. These eight representatives have it within their power to change the face of poverty, disease and death in Africa and other parts of the world, and
 
Whereas, artists and humanitarians from all over the world held concerts throughout the globe to ask people of decency to lend their voices to urge the leaders of the G8 Summit to "Make Poverty History." These concerts were organized by Sonny Bono, of U2 and Irish rocker, Bob Geldof, who organized the Live AID concert in 1985. The concerts included 150 rock, pop, rap, country, jazz and R&B groups and the audiences received a message from the beloved Nelson Mandela, and
 
Whereas, this week, the world public is encouraged to make their voices heard by logging on to www.live8live.com <http://www.live8live.com> to include your name on the global roster of millions of world citizens who are being asked, not for financial contributions, but for honor contributions; to make your voices heard to the leaders of the G8 Summit - "Make Poverty History," forgive the debt, ease trade restrictions, increase financial aid, stop needless disease and death, where Africa experiences the numerical equivalent of two World Trade Center disasters - 6,500 people die every single day, from AIDS, malaria and hunger.
