WHEREAS, Daniel Kelly began his scouting career at the age of 11 before achieving his rank of Eagle Scout on July 16, 2023; and,

WHEREAS, Daniel has held several positions in his scouting career including Senior Patrol Leader, Troop Guide, and Assistant Patrol Leader and also acts as one of the troops liaisons for the local food back at Stewart Ave Lutheran Church; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel’s Eagle Scout Project was to honor veterans buried at a local cemetery. He and his fellow scouts have put nearly 120 hours of research into finding the names and grave locations of each veteran in the cemetery; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel and his troop used several websites and in person searches of each head stone or military marker locating 140 veterans’ actual graves and 10 more whose markers or headstones no longer exist or are unreadable. He has listed all the names on a plaque that he installed in the cemetery; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel is in the National Honors Society, has been on high honor roll consistently for the last 10 years and has maintained straight A's throughout Middle and High school. He is currently going into his senior year and has taken several Accelerated Placement Courses; and,
WHEREAS, Daniel has been taking violin since he was 5 and recently started piano. He likes playing chess. He hopes to attend York College next fall and major in Mechanical Engineering; and,
NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby commend Daniel Kelly; and,
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Council of the City of Pittsburgh does hereby declare Tuesday, August 1, 2023, to be “Daniel Kelly Day” in the City of Pittsburgh.
